When children read my books, I hope they feel calm, comforted, and safe - as if the story is holding their hand. I want them to feel seen in their emotions, and gently reassured that whatever they are going through, they're not alone. I hope grown-ups reading alongside them feel it too - a quiet sense of stillness, connection, and understanding.
One rainy day, the view was misty and soft. Lottie snuggled into her hoodie and leaned her cheek against the cool glass. The town looked hushed. Even the waves were whispering. The red and white houses were there, the little blue boat and the lamppost. And the sea moved slowly. Lottie watched and listened and felt the quiet settle around her like a blanket.
